Is the president elect and the democratic congress undermining the power of the people?

By interfering with Illinois politics. Isn't the choice of senator in the hands of the citizens of Illinois? Since when does a president elect have any power? Since when do people like Feinstein have the right to influence this decision? Is this no longer government of the people, by the people, and for the people?
