Weight difference when electroplating?

Because penny's aren't made of copper. Pennies are made of "ZINC" that is copper plated. A true copper penny hasn't been made since 1982. One cannot add more copper on top of copper plating. The process dilutes and removes copper. The nickel plating on the quarter is a better attracting surface (and a harder metal), so that's why the quarter gained more weight.
